Community Information

 June 21, 2010

“Placer County received notification on June 21, 2010 that Sacramento County trapped a “mated” female Oriental Fruit Fly in the North Highlands area. The significance of the mated female is that it indicates the possibility of an established population, and automatically triggers a 4.5 mile quarantine around the find location. Unfortunately, this quarantine will extend into the very southern portion of Placer County. The movement of all fruits and some vegetables, including backyard produce, may be affected by the quarantine. At this point, we anticipate that the California Department of Food and Agriculture and Sacramento County will pick up all of the work on this project. For further information please contact Placer County Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures, Joshua Huntsinger, Deputy Agricultural Commissioner or Darryl Mitani, Senior Inspector at 530.889.7372.” (view a map of Placer County quarantine area)
